Emotions following the recent release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have not yet subsided, and new information is coming to us about the next installment of the series, which is to be the sixth Black Ops.

Back in September we reported about the fact that the new part of CoD is likely to be an installment of Treyarch's sub-cycle. At the time, however, we didn't learn any details about the game - other than an alleged and very general release date.

Now Windows Central - citing its sources - not only confirmed earlier reports, but also revealed a ton of details about the game.

  • The latest Black Ops - once again - is to be the work of studio Treyarch.
  • Upcoming Call of Duty may be subtitled Black Ops: Gulf War or Black Ops 6, although no final decision has yet been made on this issue.
  • The game will take us back to the 1990s and will show the Gulf War. Among other things, we will take part in Operation Desert Storm.
  • The story will focus on presenting the conflict from different perspectives, however emphasis is to be placed on the actions of CIA agents.
  • The plot will refer to the end of the Cold War and "explore some of the consequences in connection with the end of this period of history."
  • According to latest fashion in the gaming world, Activision plans to offer early access to the game for those who are willing to spend a little more money. Windows Central mentions a "big bonus."
  • Zombie mode will return to the game in its classic form, with separate maps and gameplay divided into rounds.
  • The title is expected to debut in the fall of 2024. Insider Gaming suggests October or November as potential release window for the game (which is quite obvious, given the release dates of the series' installments in recent years).
  • In addition, Treyarch's work is expected to offer - at least in part - multiplayer maps from earlier installments of Black Ops, such as Grind or WMD, in refreshed form.

Finally, I will point out that a trusted insider associated with this series of shooters, CharlieIntel suggests that the upcoming Call of Duty was being developed for as long as four years (the standard in the series until recently was a three-year development cycle).
